Toney will bring in a big fee, but Brentford are not the kind of club to splash out on a replacement. Instead, Alan Nixon reports on that they will seek to find value for money in any Toney cover. Sargent is considered to fit that mould.

He will not come cheap, though, after committing to a new five-year contract at Norwich. He has hit 11 goals for the Canaries this season, including a run of seven efforts in his last eight games, and is expected to attract plenty of admiring glances over the coming weeks.

WHAT NEXT FOR SARGENT?

Norwich may yet force their way into the Championship play-offs, which would offer them a shot at returning to the Premier League, but Sargent could be heading in that direction regardless – with Brentford unlikely to be the last top-flight outfit to mull over a move for the proven goalscorer.
